Pic’s Peanut Butter World is an iconic Nelson business, and its founder Pic Picot will be speaking at the Electrify Nelson event on Saturday, 29 August.
Pic plans to share his solar story with visitors to the expo, and not just what has been installed at Peanut Butter World, but also at his other properties – so something relevant for both businesses and homeowners. Pic believes this is a great opportunity for us all to make a positive contribution towards sustainability.
Sustainable solutions have been part of Pic’s business strategy from the beginning, as he chose to grow peanuts locally. This decision wasn’t just a sustainability one, but was driven by a desire to reduce business risk from their supply chain in the long-term.
These business decisions have gained them significant recognition, as Pic’s is a B Corp certified business. B Corp is a regulatory standard which recognises businesses for their environmental and social performance. Holding a B Corp certification demonstrates that a business works to benefit communities, people and the planet, over just making a profit. There are 10,900 certified B Corp companies in the world, and more than 800 of those are across New Zealand and Australia.
Initially audited in 2021, Pic’s Peanut Butter World scored 104.7 (the median for a normal business is 50.9, with 80 being the qualifying mark for B Corp). In 2025 they raised their score to 107.5, making them one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s highest scoring food businesses, but also the highest rated B Corp peanut butter business in the world! Their customers support all of their initiatives by continuing to buy their products.
Pic has seen the renewable energy landscape change in recent years.
“It took time to raise the money to invest in our solar panel system. Over time the technology has improved and become cheaper. The question now has shifted from, ‘should we do this?’ to ‘why aren’t we doing this?”
What Pic hopes visitors to the Electrify event will take away with them is an understanding of the work they are doing, and that this will encourage them to continue supporting the business so they can continue to improve.
Electrify Nelson Expo takes place on Saturday 29 August at the Annesbrook Event Centre. Entry is free and visitors can explore stalls, expert speakers, live demonstrations, EV test drives and practical advice on everything from solar and batteries to home energy efficiency and electric transport. Pic Picot will be speaking as a part of the event.
